OutFest is an LGBTQ+ Festival of Arts located in the Waterloo Wellington Region. This festival is an excellent opportunity for experienced and emerging LGBTQ+ artists looking to share their stories. If you’re a dancer, singer, writer, actor, filmmaker or artist of any genre, we want to help share your work.

If you do not identify as LGBTQ+ though you have a piece or submission that you are open to adapting, you are welcome to submit your work. So what are you waiting for?

OutFest is currently seeking...


  • Submissions must run at a maximum of 20 minutes. Accepted submissions will be tailored/cut to fit within 20 minutes of stage time  
  • Submissions must centre on an LGBTQ+ character(s) or theme(s) and can be presented in many formats (directly / indirectly)  
  • Directly -  A person(s) directly talking about coming out, dating, family, a character trying to understand their sexuality, gender etc
  •  Indirectly - A person(s) / couple trying to adopt a baby, a person(s) trying to keep their identity as a superhero hidden
  • We encourage and welcome submissions that centre on a variety of characters ranging in age, culture, and ethnic background
  • Submission may also range in perspective, i.e. a friend explains what it’s like to have an LGBTQ+ friend, a parent has a child that identifies as LGBTQ+, etc
  • Submissions must be rated 14A and will be edited for language and violence
  • SUBMISSIONS DUE: Friday March 31st, 2017 by 5pm

Are you a dancer looking to perform at OutFest in 2017? Do you have a movement based piece you've created? Submit your routine today!

  • We are accepting two dance routines at a maximum of 5 minutes each or one dance routine at a maximum of 10 minutes
  • Submissions may range in dance style; from traditional ballroom, jazz, tap, ballet, tango to interpretative, karate etc.

Are you an LGBTQ+ musician, band, solo performer, choir etc. looking to share your music and perform at OutFest in September 2017?

  • All genre’s of music are accepted, although acoustic sets are preferred because of the size of the space and audience. Contact us for more information.
  • Preference will be given to those living in Kitchener / Waterloo and the surrounding area. Although artists and bands from London, Guelph, Hamilton, Toronto etc. are welcome to perform.       
  • If you are not chosen, please check out our music series OutLoud launching in March 2017. OutLoud will provide an opportunity for LGBTQ+ musicians, bands, and musical artists to perform year round.

Have you found a 1 Act Play online that you think would be perfect for OutFest? Or perhaps a feature length play, and there is a segment you feel we could do. Existing plays / 1 Acts do not need to be LGBTQ+ themed as we can cast accordingly.

OutFest is a fun and exciting festival which provides an opportunity for those looking to gain experience or expand their existing skills as a director or stage manager.  

  • Directors will have the opportunity to apply their own artistic style to a piece.
  • Directors will have the opportunity to cast their own piece

  • Sunday August 20th - Poster Run
  • *Sunday September 10th -12th  - *TECH TIME + LOAD IN + Q2Q + REHEARSAL*
  • *Thursday September 14th, 15th, 16th  - OutFest 2017!*
  • *September 25th - Sept 30th - One performance at Impact 2017*
